Snootli Amphitheatre - North Walls

Description:

A series of sometimes-intersecting routes on the right-hand (northern-most) side of the large amphitheatre feature:

Blockbuster - (green) 5.11d, 6 pitches (11a, 10+, 10a, 10a, 10+, 11d) - a good adventure through the massive blocky steps on the right side of the amphitheatre. Double-rack to 3", with at least 3x 2" pieces for the final pitch, and essential small wire for first pitch.

Pitch 1 - 5.11a - 25m: Belay at the base of a large corner system on the right edge of the entire amphitheatre feature. Solo several meters up to a broad hanging slab and some gear (use a long runner). Move right over several short stepped walls past a couple bolts, gaining the base of a hanging corner. Continue past a mix of bolts and gear (key small wires before the crux), moving left past some balancy moves, final slab challenge, and belay on a large ledge.
Pitch 2 - 5.10+ - 30m: Easily and delicately climb past large, chunky flake segments until the features form more re-assuring crack features. The difficulty slowly increases until you are forced left into a steep bay below a clean flake; find the crucial kneebar, place into the flake crack above, then negotiate a few technical moves upwards into a friendly right-leaning escape crack. Alternate (and harder) finish goes left up the steep flake instead.
Pitch 3 - 5.10a - 30m: Climb the short and friendly flake/corner system directly right of the belay. Overcome the lip easily past good gear, to gain a very large left-trending slab ramp. Climb past a bolt on easy ground to belay.
Pitch 4 - 5.10a - 40m: Climb friendly (albiet somewhat vegetated) face cracks up the large slab ramp, past a lone, to final mantle and belay.
Pitch 5 - 5.10+ - 40m: Continue up the easy corner until a juggy face-flake feature trends left. Follow it to the top of the hanging slab, step left over an almost-always-wet streak, to the base of an attractive series of face holds past 3 bolts. Continue up a short corner to a few cruxy moves past 2 bolts on a left-trending face traverse. Several more meters of easy crack moves and good gear gain you the belay at the base of a large grey "tombstone" column.
Pitch 6 - 5.11d - 35m: Enjoy this glorious pitch from the very first moves; balancy face climbing past 3 bolts gains a clean 25m corner; finger tips at first, pumpy laybacking for a few meters to a comfortable rest, then beautiful tight-hands for ~15m up the corner to a boxy bay below a roof. Clip the lone bolt, traverse left with difficulty to a good hold on the left-hand arete of the bay, maneuver upwards into the good jams left of the roof. Gain composure and gear in the final splitter exit crack, then move forward with commitment through several bouldery moves and good gear to the final belay ledge above the rim of the amphitheatre.

Ninja - (orange + yellow) 5.12a, 2 pitches - amazing climbing up interesting features for 2 solid pitches. Single-rack to 2", with some doubles in 0.5-1.5" range.

Pitch 1 - 5.11d - 25m: Start up a crack to the left of the first bolt; consider a gear anchor there for belayer as well. Gain the starting ledge and first bolt, and begin powerful face climbing on positive holds past 5 bolts leading to a steep arch. Gain the arch with a distinctive ninja kick move out right; claw through a couple poor jams to a good lock and good gear. Continue up the arch on mostly excellent jams, to a juggy undercling flake, and then step right past a final bolt protecting the thin exit boulder problem. Mantle over the arete to anchor with rap rings. A powerful, pumpy and fun pitch.
Pitch 2 - 5.12a - 30m: Continue directly up from the belay past several bolts; move right towards a large corner and the beginning of a series of thin face and flake features. Enjoy a series of powerful moves and good rests past more bolts to belay at the rim of a huge ledge .

Jinn - (orange) 5.11+, 3 pitches - an alternate easier finish to Ninja over classy features through great positions. Same rack as for Ninja, plus some extra small sizes.

Pitch 1 - 5.11d - 25m: Climb pitch 1 of Ninja.
Pitch 2 - 5.10+ - 30m: Continue directly up from the belay past 2 bolts; move left onto a broad and easy ramp to the base of an attractive headwall. Climb a flake on the right side of the headwall until midheight, then traverse left to the arete and continue up past moderate moves and good gear to an asthetic belay ledge.
Pitch 3 - 5.9 - 20m: easy face climbing past 5 bolts as you first climb above the belay and then right towards the pitch-2 belay of Ninja at the edge of a broad ledge.
Pitch 4 - a connector pitch joining up with Blockbuster; cross the large ledge to some face holds past 2 bolts on a short headwall; continue up some easy ground to join pitch 5 of Blockbuster.
